The one where 1st Limbury Guides went on a rebrand photoshoot
One of our Guide Leaders, Jenny, from 1st Limbury (St. Augustine’s) Guides, replied to an advert in Guiding Magazine in Spring last year. The ad asked for units interested in ‘photo/video shoot opportunities’. She didn’t really expect to hear back, but then in September 2022 she heard from Jennifer in the brand and creative team. Who explained about the opportunity open for filming for the rebrand. How exciting, what an opportunity.
On the day, in October half-term, Jenny drove Gemma, Isla, Tsana and Lexia to Highgate Junior School in London. They met Jennifer and the crew, and saw a big group of Brownies who had just finished their shoot.
They were given an activity card to ‘perform’, so they practiced for a while and joined up with a few other guides from another unit and then they were ready.
They were taken outside in the sunshine and mic’d-up and positioned for the filming. Most was shot from above with some close-ups from below.
Products with the new branding were sat around, so the Guides could see them. Jenny says she loves the new rucksack, so has put one on her birthday list!
Jenny said “I liked the new branding, the colours seem brighter and more vibrant and I especially liked the new Trefoil shape, although I think the traditionalists will be disappointed that it has been changed. Its definitely more modern.”
A photographer took photos throughout the session and once filming finished, they went into the recording room and the Guides were recorded saying different phrases and words for the radio adverts.
Lexie said “I really enjoyed the day as I got to hang-out with my friends and have fun doing the sign-language activity. It was good to see all the new products – the hair scrunchie was my favourite! I can’t wait to see what the new uniform will look like!”
When filming was finished they grabbed some snacks and headed home, and have been waiting (im)patiently for the launch ever since. We wanted to see how it all looked! Although Jenny said “I’m not so keen to see or hear myself on film!”
As a little reminder of their day, Jenny plans to give each of the Guides that took part a copy of the literature, posters etc they feature on.
If you want to see our Guides on the rebranded website, they currently feature on these pages https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for-parents/costs-and-other-practical-matters/ and https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for-parents/costs-and-other-practical-matters/our-uniform/
As a county we are delighted Jenny applied for, and 1st Limbury Guides got the opportunity to, take part in this day of filming with Girlguiding. It all supports our mission that we help all girls know they can do anything.
Our refreshed brand is much more than a new logo. It’s how we look. It’s how we sound. It’s everything we do, and why we exist. We want to shout about who we are, and our vision for an equal world.
We’ve been by girls’ sides for over a century – but we’re just getting started. Today, we’re squarely focused on what drives, challenges and excites girls here and now, and in the future. Girls are at the heart of all that we do. We’re excited to be moving forward together, into a future where all girls know that they can do anything.
If you want to become a volunteer with Girlguiding, you too can help girls know they can do anything.
